Tree Care and Irrigation Improvements in the Seis Lagos Trailway Medians

April 14, 2026

As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, sustainability, and the long‑term care of our shared green spaces, the Seis Lagos Utility District will be performing tree maintenance and irrigation repairs in the Trailway medians on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

What Work Is Being Done

This work will include:

  • Tree pruning
  • Installation of tree structural support systems where needed
  • Repairs to existing irrigation systems

The work will involve 24 healthy, viable trees, including Live Oaks, Cedar Elms, and Bradford Pears, located within the Trailway medians.

All services will be completed by Advanced Tree Care under the supervision of their Master Arborist, Rick Zampino, following industry‑accepted arboricultural standards and best practices.

Why This Work Matters

This proactive effort is designed to:

  • Improve overall tree structure and stability
  • Reduce the risk of limb or trunk failure during high‑wind and storm events
  • Increase wind resistance and better distribute structural loads
  • Support healthier, longer‑lived trees
  • Protect trails, nearby infrastructure, and community property
  • Preserve mature trees as valuable long‑term community assets

Pruning will focus on correcting structural issues, removing potentially hazardous limbs, and improving canopy balance—while maintaining the natural beauty and shape of each tree.

Structural Cabling and Tree Support

Some trees will also receive structural cabling systems to provide additional support.

These systems:

  • Help reduce stress and excessive movement during storms
  • Redistribute loads between major limbs and trunks
  • Do not harm or damage the tree
  • Are a widely used and proven method for extending the safe lifespan of mature trees

When properly installed and periodically inspected, these systems allow trees to continue growing naturally while improving overall safety.

Trees Not Included in This Phase

The following trees are not included in the current pruning and cabling work:

  • Tree #715
  • Tree #719
  • Tree #721
  • Tree #735

These trees show signs of heavy mistletoe infestation and other health concerns. A certified arborist is currently evaluating them to determine the most appropriate next steps, which may include treatment, additional pruning, or possible removal. No work will be done on these trees until that evaluation is complete.

Irrigation System Repairs

In addition to tree care, irrigation repairs will be made in the Trailway medians to address sprinkler systems that have not been functioning properly for the past 2–3 summers.

Restoring reliable irrigation is important to:

  • Reduce environmental stress on trees
  • Support recovery after pruning and structural support work
  • Promote healthy growth long‑term

Repairs may include:

  • Fixing damaged irrigation lines
  • Replacing malfunctioning sprinkler heads
  • Adjusting coverage to ensure consistent and adequate watering

Looking Ahead

Maintaining a healthy urban green space takes thoughtful planning, regular evaluation, and professional care. This combined effort—tree pruning, structural support installation, and irrigation repair—reflects an ongoing investment in community safety, sustainability, and the long‑term value of Seis Lagos’ green spaces.

Additional updates will be shared as evaluations continue and future phases are planned.

Thank you for your continued support and care for our community.
