HYDRANT FLUSHING

Main Line Flushing

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) mandates routine main line flushing to protect water quality. Flush points are strategically placed in areas needing frequent flushing and at the end of main lines.  The Seis Lagos Utility District field staff conducts hydrant flushing to help maintain the integrity our water system.

Staff routinely flush water mains to remove mineral and sediment buildup and check the operational integrity of the hydrants. This process ensures the health of the water system and helps deliver the highest quality water to our residents and corporate citizens.

During hydrant flushing, crews also assess water pressure and flow rates for firefighting. Ensuring each hydrant operates correctly is crucial for emergency readiness. This practice is common in most cities and part of our regular maintenance.

Benefits of Flushing

Regulations require flushing to ensure safe, high-quality water in the mains. Key benefits include:

  • Maintaining consistent chlorine disinfectant levels
  • Removing air and sediment buildup
  • Preventing stagnant water
  • Ensuring sufficient flow for fire protection
