About the Seis Lagos Utility District (SLUD)
History and Legislative Evolution of the Seis Lagos Utility District
The Seis Lagos Utility District has a longstanding tradition of serving the Seis Lagos community with essential infrastructure and public services. Originally established under Chapter 54 of the Texas Water Code as a Municipal Utility District (MUD), the District’s role and authority have expanded significantly over time.
In 1989, the Texas Legislature restructured the District through Chapter 527, Acts of the 71st Legislature, Regular Session, converting it into a Conservation, Utility, and Reclamation District. This transformation reflected the District’s growing responsibilities and its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the community.
Subsequent legislative actions further enhanced the District’s operational scope:
- In 1993, Chapter 1026, Acts of the 73rd Legislature introduced key updates to its governance and capabilities.
- In 1997, Chapter 1148, Acts of the 75th Legislature expanded the District’s authority to include the construction, maintenance, and operation of infrastructure, such as macadamized, graveled, and paved roads and turnpikes.
Today, the District continues to fulfill its legislative mandate by providing high-quality services to the residents of Seis Lagos. These services include water and wastewater management, road maintenance, and fire protection. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and service excellence, the District remains a vital institution dedicated to enhancing the quality of life within the community.
